Lagos state government has announced its plans to commence a 37km fourth mainland bridge by the end of March or April.
Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu gave the announcement while addressing attendees at the Lagos West Senatorial District Town Hall meeting held at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Sheraton, Ikeja, the state capital today.
The governor revealed the progress made on the bridge and the challenges faced in securing financing for the project.
“We’ve done extensive work on the bridge, but we are at the crossroads of where to get real financing for that kind of project. We need to be very creative, but thank God that we have reached the last point of the construction," Sanwo-Olu stated.
The governor pledged the government’s commitment to the project, stating, “Our commitment is that within this first quarter, meaning that by the end of March or April, we should break ground to start the construction of the Fourth Mainland Bridge."
He further detailed the phased approach to the construction, with phase one covering the stretch from the Junction at Abraham Adesanya to the Waterfront at Badore. Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the potential discomfort for residents but assured compensation for those affected.
Sanwo-olu emphasized that both tenants and landlords of the affected buildings would be duly compensated. The subsequent phases of the construction will extend from the Waterfront in Ado to Ibeshe in Ikorodu, and then from Ibeshe to Ita-Elewa junction, concluding with a connection to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
