LAGOS, Nigeria- The Lagos State government has detained four individuals for purportedly extorting drivers and masquerading as officials from the Enforcement Personnel of the Ministry of Transportation (MOT) and Local Government Areas (LGAs) at the Ikorodu Bus-stop.
The individuals, identified as Shola Tosin, Azeez Omilade, Adenle Said, and Olushola Raphael, were discovered to possess counterfeit Lagos state documents, as well as paperwork from other states within the Federation.
These four fraudsters were reportedly seen wearing tattered reflective jackets while engaging in unauthorized activities.
Rocketparrot News reports that the impostors were caught by the Governor’s Monitoring Team (GMT) during an enforcement operation on Wednesday, as they were pretending to be government officials in the Ikorodu area.
In response to the arrests, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, urged residents and drivers to stay alert for individuals posing as revenue officers throughout the state to prevent extortion.
"We encourage Lagosians to work with the Ministry by reporting any suspicious conduct involving fake enforcement impostors to our public complaint lines: 09020004000 or 09020009000," he stated.
"The state government is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens and will persist in taking firm action against fraudulent practices," the permanent secretary continued.
Musa also mentioned that the arrested impostors will face charges in court and be prosecuted according to the law.
