LAGOS, Nigeria (NAN) - The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has rescued two adult males and six injured individuals from a building that collapsed during construction in Odoriwu Estate, located in the Lekki area of the state.
The agency's permanent secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, released this information in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos. He reported that the incident occurred around 14:25 hours.
“After receiving distress calls through the emergency toll-free numbers 767 and 112 at 14:25 hours today, LASEMA deployed its Response Team from the Lekki and Cappa Bases.
“Upon arriving at the scene at 14:48 hours, it was found that a three-storey building under construction had collapsed at the specified location.
“At this time, two adult males have been pulled from the debris of the fallen structure, while six seriously injured adult males have been rescued and provided immediate medical assistance by the LRU Pre-Hospital Care Unit.
They were then transported to Marina General Hospital for further treatment following initial medical care,” he stated.
He also mentioned that the exact cause of the incident is still under investigation, noting that further inquiries will be carried out.
“The agency’s heavy-duty equipment was sent to the scene and is currently in operation. “Search and rescue efforts are ongoing, and further updates will be provided,” he added.
