LAGOS, Nigeria - The Lagos State Government has announced its intention to install about 3,000 electronic police (e-police) and speed limit cameras throughout the state to bolster traffic law enforcement and enhance road safety.
The Director of the Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), Akin-George Fashola, made this revelation during a discussion on Lagos Transport Trends and Perspectives, a program organized by the state’s Ministry of Transportation on Traffic Radio 96.1 FM.
The VIS Director highlighted that individuals who exceed speed limits will face a fine of N50,000, but those who believe they have not infringed the regulation can challenge the fine by providing evidence.
Additionally, he stated that the government has launched an online roadworthiness recertification system for existing vehicle owners, which allows them to renew their roadworthiness certificates online without having to visit a VIS office.
He also mentioned that the VIS now provides an auto verification service for those interested in purchasing used vehicles.
This service offers a comprehensive history of the vehicle, allowing buyers to make educated choices.
He encouraged residents of Lagos to check the VIS website or visit any of the 45 VIS centers spread across the state for accurate information and support.
