LAGOS, Nigeria - The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit conducted a routine enforcement and clean-up operation during the early hours of Saturday, April 26, 2025.
In a statement released on Sunday, the agency reported that the operation began around 12:35 a.m., led by CSP Adetayo Akerele, focusing on key areas such as Lekki, Ikoyi, Falomo Bridge, Eko Hotel, and Ligali Ayorinde.
These locations had been highlighted due to numerous complaints and distress calls about street urchins, miscreants, hooligans, pickpockets, and other suspected criminals, particularly during late hours.
During the operation, 52 individuals were arrested, consisting of 51 males and one female.
The agency effectively restored order and peace in all targeted areas.
Commenting on the results of the operation, the Chairman sent a strong warning to criminal elements, emphasizing that the Agency would remain steadfast in its efforts to uphold environmental standards and the safety of lives and property across the State.
“We will keep up these enforcement activities until every area in the city is devoid of criminal behavior,”
Akerele stated. “Those who engage in actions that disrupt the peace and security of residents must stop immediately or face the full consequences of the law.”
According to Akerele, this initiative is part of a continuing strategy to carry out routine enforcement operations at least bi-weekly, aimed at gradually eradicating criminal activities and protecting law-abiding residents and businesses in the vicinity.
All individuals detained during the operation will be prosecuted in court as appropriate, he said.
Akerele reiterated the Lagos State Taskforce’s commitment to providing a safer, cleaner, and more secure environment for all residents of Lagos.
