The Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Olorundare Jimoh, has vowed to work closely with the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to enhance security and increase revenue generation.
Jimoh made this commitment during a courtesy visit from Michael Awe, the Controller of Customs at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), at the State Police Command.
He stated that collaboration between the two organizations would be essential for improved security in the region.
He emphasized the potential areas for partnership with Customs.
“We are committed to facilitating business operations and ensuring the continuity of this collaboration over time. While we are not primarily a revenue-generating body, we will provide all necessary support to help the command exceed its revenue goals,” he remarked.
Awe, on his part, expressed his desire for ongoing collaboration with the police, noting that the service has successfully intercepted many arms, ammunition, narcotics, and other illegal items, demonstrating effective synergy in action.
“The objective of my visit is to enhance cooperation with the police, as we cannot accomplish our duties in isolation. Recently, within my command at MMIA in Lagos, we confiscated arms, ammunition, military equipment, and narcotics.
We conducted a thorough examination of goods as directed, leading to the discovery of these illicit items and the apprehension of a suspect linked to Turkey. Such successes are only achievable through inter-agency collaboration,” he explained.
Jimoh also welcomed the Comptroller of Immigration of the Nigeria Immigration Service’s Lagos State Command, D.O. Adebambo during his courtesy call.
Adebambo praised the police for their collaboration with the service and mentioned that his visit aimed to foster ongoing partnership.
He stated that the service is always eager to collaborate with sister agencies on operations, especially in terms of intelligence sharing.
“There are numerous areas where we can work with the police, particularly in actionable intelligence provision that can enhance the effectiveness of my office. Such collaboration is greatly appreciated. This is part of my purpose in seeking a partnership with the CP,” he added.
Regarding illegal immigration, Adebambo noted that the service has been working to educate market vendors and transporters about the issue.
“We have instructed them to report any suspicious activities. Whenever we receive intelligence on illegal immigrants, we respond promptly,” he stated.
Jimoh commended the NIS for their cooperation, reiterating a pledge for continued collaborative efforts.
