Report has it that the police force in Lagos and Ogun States have joined forces to take a patrol along the highway as a way to combat insecurity.
The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed this in a statement posted on his social media handle, X, on Thursday.
SP Hundeyin noted that the joint patrols along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway would help combat crime and ensure the safety of commuters.
He added that the joint patrols will cover the stretch from Kara Bridge to Sagamu Interchange, a hotspot for criminal activities.
Hundeyin assured the public that the increased police presence would deter crime and ensure the safety of road users.
He stated, “As part of efforts to enhance security on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos State Police Command and its Ogun State counterpart have commenced joint patrols of Kara Bridge to Sagamu Interchange."
The patrol teams comprises of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) from the Lagos State Command and they would provide a visible security presence along the expressway.
This initiative comes in response to recent incidents of crime along the expressway. In December 2023, gunmen in military attire reportedly kidnapped seven individuals in the Fidiwo area, resulting in one fatality. In January 2024, the chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Philip Aivoji, was abducted at the Ogere area.
The joint patrols aim to reassure commuters and residents of both states of the commitment of the police to ensuring their safety and security along the critical transportation route.
