In an effort to keep Lagos secure for both its residents and visitors, the Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) has established at least nine new units aimed at preventing crime from escalating in various areas of the city.
These new units include Marine, Forest Rangers, Technical and Mechanical Support, Paramedics, Tailoring, Crime Scene Management and Forensics, Domestic Violence, Research and Innovation, and Anti-Human Trafficking.
According to reports, these formations are part of the strategies implemented by General Manager Ifalade Oyekan to strengthen intelligence gathering and uphold peace, order, and safety throughout Lagos communities.
During a brief ceremony at the LNSA headquarters in Oshodi on Wednesday, Oyekan appointed the heads of the new units along with other officers, urging the 38 newly appointed personnel to uphold the agency's core principles of integrity, vigilance, and commitment to the community.
After leading the officers in their oath of service, the General Manager praised their dedication and encouraged them to serve with discipline, courage, and empathy.
“You are not merely officers of the Neighbourhood Safety Agency; you are the protectors of our communities. Your actions and presence will define the safety and trust in the neighborhoods you are tasked with safeguarding.”
He also underscored the significance of proactive policing, engaging with the community, and protecting human rights during operations throughout the state. Oyekan advised the officers to form strong relationships with residents and collaborate to tackle safety issues.
He reiterated the agency's dedication to public safety through ongoing officer training, community-focused initiatives, and strategic collaborations with local partners.
The inauguration ceremony saw attendance from agency officials and fellow corps members, who expressed their strong support for the new officers as they began their assignments in various neighborhoods.
One of the newly sworn-in officers, Adeyemi Titilayo, who supervises the tailoring unit, shared her enthusiasm for her new position, promising to dedicate herself to her responsibilities.
“I am proud to be a part of this agency and this new unit. I look forward to collaborating closely with my colleagues and our communities to enhance safety in our neighborhoods for everyone.”
