The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure has denied all allegations of diverting and misappropriating the party funds.
Abure denied the allegations while speaking on the ongoing crisis within the party on the Thursday Arise Television's Morning Show.
The national treasurer of the party, Mrs Oluchi Oparah had raised those allegations against him on Monday.
Abure refuted claims that the party had collected over N3.5 billion in revenue.
He challenged Oparah to provide evidence of how she arrived at the figure of N3.5 billion, stating that the party's audited records show that only N1.3 billion entered the party's account between 2022 and now, with an additional N700 million allocated directly to the campaign organization for election campaigns.
Abure emphasized the availability of audited statements of accounts from 2022 to 2023, conducted by certified auditors of the party, and urged Oparah to substantiate her claims with concrete evidence.
The suspended National Treasurer, Mrs. Oluchi Oparah, had accused Abure of denying her access to the party's financial records and bank accounts. She also demanded that Abure provide an account of party funds exceeding N3.5 billion, which she claimed were proceeds from the sale of forms and fundraisers for the 2023 general election.
In response to these allegations, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party imposed a six-month suspension on Oparah. The National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, stated that Oparah was being used as a mole by dissidents to cause disaffection within the party.
The Labour Party continues to grapple with internal strife as these allegations and counterclaims unfold, leaving the future of its leadership and financial management in question.
