The Kwara State Government has announced that it has purchased 20,065 hectares of land in the Ilorin East and Ilorin South Local Government Areas, for the New Ilorin SmartCity Estate.
In a statement signed by Abdulrazaq Yusuf, press secretary in the state Geographic Information Service on Wednesday, said the acquisition of the land is in the best interest of the people of the state and the entire nation.
According to the statement in part, “the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s quest for the acquisition of about 20,065 hectares of land, in both Ilorin East and Ilorin South Local Government Areas respectively serve for the establishment of the New Ilorin SmartCity Estate.
“The SmartCity would accommodate modern schools, hospitals, markets, police stations, fire services, stadiums and other social amenities.
“The SmartCity Estate would also House 1000 Federal Renewed Hope housing estates as well as accommodate the phase two Industrial Park and a host of other infrastructure,” the Sulyman statement pointed out.
Sulyman also affirmed that “when fully activated, the project would provide employment opportunities for our teeming youths.”
He disclosed further that owners of the acquired lands would soon be compensated as they have been urged to forward their claims to the office of the Executive Chairman, KW-GIS, along Commissioner’s Lodge Way, GRA, Ilorin, for collation.
