LAGOS, Nigeria - A five-year-old girl named Abdulrahmah Memunah has reportedly been kidnapped by unidentified individuals while on her way home from school in the Ejigbo area of Lagos.
Memunah was taken by her abductors as she returned from an Islamic school that she attended with her sister.
Reports indicate that the five-year-old was lured into a supermarket along with her sibling under the guise of receiving snacks.
The kidnappers made their getaway with Memunah, leaving her sister bewildered and alone in the supermarket.
Her father, Abdulraham Alimi, who has informed the police about the incident, described the distressing situation that has plagued the family and their neighbors for the past two months.
He stated that Memunah's kidnappers have since reached out to him using unknown phone numbers, demanding a ransom of ₦500,000 for her release.
"It was nearly a month after my daughter was taken that they contacted us. They concealed their phone numbers and insisted we pay ₦500,000 to get my daughter back. They hung up and haven't called since. I believe my daughter is still alive," the distraught father revealed.
"We informed the police about this situation, and they suggested we ask the kidnappers to reach out via WhatsApp. We are uncertain of the police's actions on this matter. By Friday, it will be exactly two months since my daughter was kidnapped. We are seeking help and appealing to anyone who might recognize the suspects to come forward. Our daughter is only five years old, and we urgently need assistance to bring her home," Alimi added.
In the meantime, the Lagos State Police Command has announced that an investigation has begun to ascertain the details surrounding the abduction. The case has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department to delve into the circumstances behind Memunah's mysterious disappearance.
