The Kebbi state government has started preparations for a mass wedding set to take place on February 27, which will accommodate 300 couples from the state.
The chairman of the organizing committee, Suleiman Argungu, informed reporters during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi that the wedding is being organized in partnership with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS).
He noted that several committees have been formed to handle specific tasks, including pregnancy tests, genotype tests, HIV/AIDS testing, and other necessary legal requirements for marriage in the state.
Argungu emphasized that the mass wedding fulfills a commitment made by Gov. Nasir Idris during the previous mass wedding, promising that such events would occur regularly to support less privileged individuals in their quest to marry. "
The administration of Gov. Idris will allocate N180,000 as dowry for each bride from the 21 Local Government Areas in the state. Additional items, including room furnishings and food supplies, will also be provided to help strengthen the couples' marital bonds.
The wedding will be solemnized following extensive consultation with Islamic scholars, in line with the teachings of the Noble Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (SAW)," stated Argungu.
