Katsina Police Commissioner Meets Nlc Over Planned Protests

POSTED ON March 1, 2024 •   Metro      BY Oluwakemi Ademuyiwa •   VIEWS 300

The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, convened a meeting on Monday with the Representative of the National Labour Congress (NLC), Katsina State Chapter, to discuss strategies and measures for ensuring a safe and orderly protest while upholding the rights of all individuals involved.

The discussions focused on the importance of conducting the protest in a peaceful and law-abiding manner to effectively convey messages while respecting human rights.

CP Musa reiterated citizens' right to protest and assured the NLC representative of the command's commitment to protecting that right. He emphasized the need for a conducive environment for peaceful demonstrations, stressing the significance of open communication and adherence to agreed-upon guidelines.

The NLC Representative expressed appreciation to the CP for his continuous support and dedication to fostering understanding and collaboration among all stakeholders. He pledged the command's commitment to ensuring a peaceful environment for demonstrations, highlighting the importance of open communication and adherence to guidelines.

Both parties reviewed plans and protocols for the forthcoming protest, with the NLC representatives expressing gratitude for the CP's support in creating a conducive environment for peaceful demonstrations.

It is noteworthy Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had accused the federal government of planning to attack its members participating in scheduled peaceful rallies across the country. Despite this allegation, the NLC asserts that workers remain resolute, determined, and prepared to express their pain and grief peacefully.

The national president of the NLC, Joe Ajaero voiced his concerns about the alleged plans by the government in a statement released on Sunday, February 26,2024. The statement emphasized the commitment of workers to express their grievances in a peaceful manner, aligning with the sentiments of Nigerians.

The NLC's statement comes ahead of planned peaceful rallies, highlighting the tension between the labor union and the government.
