Members of the Ibeku Youth Association has made a demand for the unconditional release of their kinsman, NNamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, from the custody of the Department of State Service.

They made the call in a communique jointly signed by the National President of Ibeku Youth Association, Mr. Martins Chiedozie Nwosu, and the National Secretary, Mr. Chibuzor Onwukamuche, and read to the press by the National President at Isieke, Ibeku ancestral home, Umuahia.

The group expressed sadness over the continuous detaining of Kanu despite court rulings for his release.

According to the group: “It saddens our hearts that one of us – our own dearest brother – Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has long been detained and incarcerated at the detention of the Directorate of State Security, Abuja, despite court’s ruling to release him, at least on bail.”

Maintaining that Kanu only stood for truth, equity and justice for the Igbo tribe, and the Eastern part of Nigeria, just like Nelson Madiba Mandela of South Africa.

The group added that the detention has brought insecurity to the Eastern part of Nigeria.

They stressed that his release would strengthen their hope in the verse of the National Anthem that says “Though tribe and tongue may defer, in brotherhood we stand,” adding that it would restore peace in the Eastern part of Nigeria.

They stated, “We remind our dear President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, that Messrs. Sowore and Igboho, who were also charged with similar offences have all been released and discharged from the charges, by the Federal Government of Nigeria. Hence, we pray our dear President Tinubu to extend this same gesture to our brother – Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”

Calling on the governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, the senator representing Abia Central, Senator Austin Akobundu and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, to join the league of those who are working for the release of Kanu, the youths also implored the Ohanaeze Ndigbo to advise Reno Omokiri to always sensor his utterances on the issues concerning the release of Mazi Kanu.
