The team for the economic development comprises the state government and the Tony Blair Institute.
Country Director of TBI, Joy Dariye, explained that the energy sector reform roadmap is driven by key objectives, including strategic planning for the development of the state’s electricity market and universal access, with a focus on increasing electricity use for commercial and industrial activities.
TBI’s Team Lead for Energy & Climate in Nigeria, Victor Adamu, said the reform include the state’s electricity demand based on demographics and creating pathways to achieve sustainable universal access to electricity.
Adamu added that the "programme will promote the productive use of renewable energy in agriculture and healthcare. This will be achieved through the deployment of solar-PV systems with energy storage in hospitals, starting with all primary healthcare centres, as well as subsidised solar irrigation pumps, milling machines, and cold storage systems for smallholder farmers across the state."
“The project will also support the restoration of year-round agricultural production, increasing output by 35%. With energised primary healthcare centres, it is expected that mortality rates will drop significantly."
