Kano Man Returns Salary Paid Into Late Father's Account By Govt

A young man, identified as Yusuf Sulaiman Sumaila, has earned commendation from Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his exemplary act of integrity. Sumaila voluntarily returned the salary payments that had been mistakenly deposited into his deceased father's account to the state government. According to a statement released by Abdullahi Ibrahim, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Digital Media, Sumaila's father passed away in October 2022. However, an administrative oversight led to the state government continuing to deposit his salary until August 2023. Upon discovering the error, Sumaila promptly took the honorable step of returning the accumulated salary, which amounted to N328,115.75, to the state government. Furthermore, he dutifully notified the government of his father's demise, rectifying the situation. Governor Yusuf commended Sumaila for his honesty and sense of responsibility, lauding his commitment to ethical conduct and adherence to the principles of good governance. “Yusuf stated that the state government had continued paying his late father’s salary into his account after his death in October 2022 until August 2023, when he made an official request for the payment to be stopped. To the governor’s satisfaction, Yusuf also requested to return the backlog of 328,115.75 to the government, for which the governor personally invited him to his office to thank him.
