KANO- Kano State Government has enrolled inmates in its healthcare contribution plan, which aims to improve free and high-quality healthcare services for those in detention.
CSC Musbahu Kofar-Nasarawa, Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Correctional Service, Kano Command, announced in a press statement issued on Monday in Kano.
Kofar-Nasarawa added that the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Healthcare Management Agency, Dr. Rahila Aliyu-Mukhtar, announced during a visit to the State Controller of NCoS, Mr. Ado Salisu, in his office.
Aliyu-Mukhtar added that Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf approved inmates' registration in the healthcare system to give them free access to basic and comprehensive healthcare treatments while in jail.
“The health and medical welfare of inmates are essential for efficient custodial management, as well as for their effective reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration,” she said.
She further assured the Controller that the state government is committed to supporting and aiding all detainees with medical needs while they are in custody.
The Executive Secretary also asked the detainees to continue praying for Governor Yusuf to ensure the continuation of democratic dividends for all.
Responding, Mr. Ado Salisu, Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, praised the state government for its unwavering support and assistance to the Command.
Salisu stated that the gesture will encourage the detainees to become productive and law-abiding citizens upon their release.
