Nollywood veteran Kanayo O. Kanayo has expressed his delight at playing his first major Igbo-speaking role in decades in the upcoming film, Out of Breath.
The actor rose to prominence after portraying ritualist Chief Omego in the Igbo-language classic Living in Bondage. He has since been in dozens of other films over the last 30 years, but this is the first time he is returning to his roots for a major project.
He captioned an Instagram image of the new film trailer.
“Everyone is at home in his dialect." The English language remains a borrowed tongue,"
Out of Breath is an Igbo epic film based on historical events that is marketed as an African drama of tradition and heroism.
The film is directed by Obi Emelonye, who debuted the trailer on Sunday, March 24, to commemorate his 57th birthday.
"I have planted another legacy tree by cooking something in Igbo," he posted on Twitter.
