Benjamin Kalu, a member from Abia State's Bende federal constituency, has withdrawn from consideration for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 10th National Assembly officially unveiled the zoning formula the day before this.
The Deputy Speaker's position, on the other hand, has already been announced by Kalu.
According to a press release from his media assistant, he stated: "I think this post was excellent for the Southeast region, as it has not produced a Speaker in the last 40 years.
"However, as a firm believer in Party supremacy, I have decided to withdraw my candidacy for the Speakership Position and fully accept the nomination for the position of Deputy Speaker of the 10th Assembly in line with the directives of our Party, the All Progressives Congress (APC)."
Godswill Akpabio and Jibrin Barau have received the support of the APC to lead the Senate.
Ben Kalu has been chosen to serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives in place of Abbas Tajudeen.
