Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Tuesday officially launched the anticipated commercial operations of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LMRT) Red Line.

The Red Line, which stretches 27 kilometers from Agbado to Oyingbo, is set to transform commuting for Lagosians by providing a faster, more reliable means of travel across the city.

The Red Line, Lagos’ second rail system to become operational in less than two years, is designed to move approximately 500,000 passengers daily which marks a significant milestone in the state’s transport infrastructure.

Also, the red line features eight stations at key locations including Oyingbo, Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege, Iju, and Agbado, offering residents a seamless connection across these bustling areas.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of this new rail system in his mission to keep Lagos moving.

He further stated that it represents a crucial step toward building a fully integrated, efficient transportation network in the city.

The Red Line’s launch reflects the government’s commitment to improving public infrastructure and reducing traffic congestion.

Daily services on the Red Line will start at 6:00 AM from Agbado Station.

Additionally, Second train will depart Iju Station at 7:30 AM.

Commuters are also reminded to have their Cowry Cards ready for boarding.

The governor urged Lagosians to take ownership of the project and maintain the integrity of the rail system.

“This project belongs to all of us, and it’s crucial that we treat it with respect.

“Vandalism or any form of disruption will not be tolerated.

“Together, we can ensure that our trains provide a safe and enjoyable commuting experience for everyone,” Sanwo-Olu said

The Red Line rail system is expected to ease transportation challenges in Lagoso.

Also, it will offer residents a more efficient and eco-friendly alternative to road travel.

As the city continues to grow, the government’s vision for a modern, connected Lagos is taking shape, with the Red Line serving as a cornerstone of this ambition.
