Josh Frydenberg is considering a return to federal politics at the next election in Australia.
This was revealed by a program on ABC insiders on Sunday.
Frydenberg a former treasurer of Australia was considering a run for the seat of Kooyong, which he lost to independent Monique Ryan at the last federal election, after the electoral commission on Friday proposed new boundaries which could improve Liberal prospects in the seat.
But the Liberal Party has already pre-selected a candidate for the seat, 31-year-old former finance professional Amelia Hamer.
That means Mr Frydenberg would need the administrative committee of the Victorian Liberal Party to reopen the pre-selection process.
Karen Andrews, a former Liberal minister and outgoing MP, drummed support for Fredenberg return to politics.
She said, "I think it's very important that we have the strongest political offering available in Victoria," Ms Andrews said.
"Josh has been a former treasurer, he has a wide range of experience … As far as I'm aware [he] hasn't ruled it out but he hasn't ruled it in so I would encourage Josh to give it full consideration."
