Jamb Registrar Advocates Digital Learning At Kwasu

POSTED ON December 14, 2023 •   Education      BY Oluwakemi Ademuyiwa •   VIEWS 229

In a thought-provoking lecture titled, ‘Learning, Unlearning, and Relearning – Prerequisites of the Digital Age,’ the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, encouraged graduates and students to acquire essential skills to thrive in today's digital era. The lecture took place at the Kwara State University convocation in Malete, Kwara State.

During his address, Prof. Oloyede underscored the importance of the ability to learn, unlearn, and relearn, stating that individuals embracing this triad are more likely to succeed in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. He emphasized, "Those who can learn, relearn, and unlearn are the successful ones, and those without the mindset that accommodates the triad are bound to perpetually lament."

The esteemed Islamic Studies scholar highlighted the practical aspect of learning, asserting that "learning is useless without practice." Furthermore, he defined relearning as the capacity to swiftly and effectively acquire new skills, knowledge, and perspectives.

Addressing the transformative nature of the Information Age, Prof. Oloyede noted that technological developments continually shape the world, presenting both opportunities and threats. He pointed out that certain traditional jobs are on the verge of extinction due to advancements in Information Technology.

The former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin emphasized that individuals, regardless of literacy levels, must equip themselves with cutting-edge skills associated with learning, relearning, and unlearning. Prof. Oloyede urged everyone to take lifelong learning seriously and be willing to adapt to changing circumstances.

In response, the acting Vice-Chancellor of KWASU, Prof. Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, echoed the sentiment, stating that educational institutions must become transformational drivers in preparing students for the rapidly evolving digital world. He affirmed the necessity for individuals to embrace the habit of lifelong learning, unlearning, and relearning, emphasizing that these qualities will set them apart and empower them to navigate challenges and seize opportunities in our dynamically changing world.
