The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has raised serious concerns about the widespread circulation of fake A'Level results in Nigeria.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, revealed a shocking number of fraudulent certificates unearthed during the 2023 Direct Entry registration exercise. A staggering 1,665 fake A'Level results were identified by the board.
Professor Oloyede made this disclosure during a meeting with leaders of the National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students in Abuja on Tuesday.
He elaborated that the breakdown of the fake results included 397 from Colleges of Education, 453 university diplomas, and others categorized as various A'Level certificates.
The JAMB Registrar expressed deep concern about the apparent corruption within the A'Level results verification system.
He emphasized the urgent need to protect the integrity of these certificates, which play a crucial role in securing admission for students.
"Out of this figure," Professor Oloyede stated, "397 were from Colleges of Education, 453 were university diplomas, and the rest were other A'Level certificates.
It should be of grave concern if no one respects the certificate one is holding; hence, there is a need to safeguard the integrity of A'Level certificates that are used to secure admission through measures that would stand the test of time."
Professor Oloyede highlighted a particularly alarming instance at Bayero University, Kano.
Out of 148 Direct Entry applications received by the institution, only a mere 6 were found to have genuine certificates. This stark example underscores the severity of the problem.
