The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is offering a substantial financial incentive to anyone who can provide credible evidence of any candidate being assigned to an examination centre outside of their selected town for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
In a statement released on Saturday and signed by JAMB's Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, Ph.D., he pointed out that many parents are consistently being misled, deceived, and taken advantage of by their own children and some secondary school owners, who continue to spread the misinformation that JAMB allocates candidates to examination centres located outside their preferred examination towns.
He clarified that every candidate has the right to select their examination town, while JAMB only assigns candidates to centres within that selected town.
He stated: “We firmly believe that parents are frequently being misled, deceived, and exploited by their own children and certain secondary school proprietors who persist in spreading the false narrative that JAMB assigns candidates to examination centres outside their selected towns.
“Let it be explicitly clear: during the registration process, candidates have the authority to choose their desired examination town. JAMB then assigns them to a centre located within that chosen town.
The unsubstantiated claim that candidates are allocated to towns differing from their selections is incorrect, malevolent, and solely aimed at damaging the Board’s reputation. It simply does not occur.
“JAMB recognizes the significance of convenience for candidates, ensuring they are able to take their examinations in locations of their choice among the available CBT centres.
Every candidate retains the right to select their examination town, while JAMB only assigns candidates to centres within that chosen town.”
