Israel has disclosed concerns regarding hostages held at Nasser Hospital in Gaza's Khan Younis, according to Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari.
Hagari stated that Israel possesses "credible intelligence" suggesting the possibility of hostages within the Nasser Hospital facility, accusing Hamas of utilizing hospitals as "terror hubs."
The IDF has been engaged in a conflict with Hamas in Khan Younis for over two months, with the hospital being one of the few areas the IDF has been unable to search since the conflict's inception.
Highlighting the complexities of the situation, Hagari emphasized the presence of Hamas terrorists potentially hiding behind injured civilians within Nasser Hospital, prompting the IDF to undertake a precise and limited operation within the facility.
Hagari urged Gazans in the vicinity of the hospital to "move away from the danger that Hamas puts them in, via a humanitarian corridor we opened for this purpose." He also clarified that there is no obligation for patients or staff to evacuate the hospital.
The revelation underscores the challenges of navigating conflict zones, particularly in densely populated areas where civilian infrastructure, such as hospitals, becomes entangled in the dynamics of conflict.
As tensions persist in the region, the situation in Gaza remains fluid, with efforts ongoing to ensure the safety and well-being of civilians amidst the ongoing hostilities.
