Iran's foreign minister issued a grave warning on Sunday, stating that the United States and Israel have crossed a significant threshold by attacking Iran's nuclear sites.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made these remarks during a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul, right after President Donald Trump announced that U.S. warplanes had targeted three Iranian nuclear sites, following an Israeli bombing campaign over the previous nine days.
Araghchi emphasized that the most serious attack occurred the night before, asserting that Iran would take all necessary measures to defend against both U.S. military actions and the aggressive and unlawful actions of Israel.
He revealed plans to travel to Moscow on Sunday for discussions with President Vladimir Putin on Monday morning, in light of the unprecedented attacks.
Araghchi noted, "I’m going to Moscow this afternoon" to conduct "serious consultations with the Russian president tomorrow." In related news, the EU has called for restraint amid the escalating conflict.
Following the strikes, Trump declared that Iran must agree to cease its aggression and insisted that Iran must not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.
However, Araghchi dismissed any requests to resume negotiations as "irrelevant."
He underscored that it was the U.S. that betrayed diplomatic efforts by backing the Israeli regime's illegal aggression against Iran, labeling the actions as genocidal.
"We were engaged in diplomacy when we were attacked," he stated. "They gave the Israelis a green light, if not direct orders, to assault Iran's nuclear sites.
This has shown that they do not value diplomacy and only respond to threats and force."
