Iran’s Constitutional Council has confirmed the results of the June 28 presidential elections, as party hopeful begin campaigning for the July 5 run-off elections
The Council spokesman, Hadi Than Nazis, on Monday said: “The validity of the first round of the presidential election has been approved by the Constitutional Council."
Nazif said the council was yet to receive any formal complaints by any of the candidates following the release of the presidential election results.
“Campaigning for the second round of elections will start after the announcement of the validity of the elections and will continue until 24 hours before the voting,” he added.
More than 24 million people cast their votes in Friday’s election to replace Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi, who lost his life in a helicopter crash on May 19.
None of the candidates secured the necessary votes to win the race. The top two vote-getters, Masoud Pezeshkian and Saeed Jalili, subsequently advanced to the runoff on July 5.
