Interswitch, a leading integrated payments and digital commerce company in Africa, has expressed its commitment to drive data-driven innovation to revolutionize the payment landscape and promote sustainable growth across the continent.
The Managing Director of Payment Processing and Switching (Interswitch Purepay), Akeem Lawal, made this pledge during his keynote address at the recent RegTech Africa Conference in Lagos.
The company sponsored the two-day event, which brought together key stakeholders from the financial services and regulatory technology industries. In his presentation titled, 'Forging Partnerships for Africa's Success: Closing the Data Divide', Lawal stressed the significance of utilizing Africa's data resources to unlock economic opportunities and provide top-notch financial products to customers.
With Africa's population exceeding 1.4 billion and a rapidly growing Internet and mobile penetration rate, Lawal highlighted the continent's enormous potential for economic advancement through data utilization.
He advocated the alignment of data regulations and policies across African countries, similar to the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
He argued that a unified regulatory framework would empower Africa to fully leverage its extensive data resources, bridging the data gap and driving economic prosperity.
