The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has affirmed its commitment to a seamless electoral process by actively involving all relevant stakeholders for the the upcoming state assembly by-election in Chibok constituency of Borno.
The Public Affairs Officer of INEC in Borno, Mr. Abba Liberty disclosed this in an interview with NAN on Monday in Maiduguri. Liberty emphasized that the commission has been diligently engaging various participants in the Chibok election, including security agencies, to guarantee a trouble-free electoral exercise.
"We have been engaging security agencies, and they have assured us of enough security," Liberty stated.
The Chibok by-election, scheduled for February 3, is necessitated by the unfortunate demise of the initial winner of the 2023 election, the late Nuhu Clerk. INEC is taking proactive measures to ensure a smooth transition and uphold the democratic process in the constituency.
Several candidates are vying for the position in the upcoming by-election, representing various political parties. Notable contenders include Abdullahi Gambo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hamid Zamzam of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), and Lawan Pagu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Other candidates in the race are Abdullahi Lawan of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Haruna Shettima of the Action People’s Party (APP), Habila Bello of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Maina Sheriff of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
As the election day approaches, INEC remains actively engaged with stakeholders, demonstrating its commitment to ensuring a transparent, credible, and secure electoral process in Chibok constituency.
