The Labour Party, LP, and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, requested that the hearings be broadcast in their application, but the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has instructed the presidential election petition court to reject this request.
In opposition to their request for a live broadcast, INEC, according to Levy Ozoukwu, counsel for Obi and LP, spoke to the press following the pre-hearing session on Wednesday.
"Surprisingly, INEC is opposing," Ozoukwu claimed.
"A public organization that is supported by the government and speaks for the people claims that it opposes live broadcasting. What are they concealing?"
Obi and the LP submitted a petition to contest Bola Tinubu's election as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the general election of 2023.
The petitioners are requesting that the tribunal either proclaim Obi winner of the presidential election or force INEC to hold new elections.
