Governor Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Imo State Governorship Election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) made the declaration after collating results from the 27 local governments in the state.
Uzodimma defeated his opponents in all Local Government Areas of the State, polling a total of 540,308 votes.
His closest challenger, Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), scored 71,503 votes.
While Athan Achonu of the Labour Party (LP) garnered 64,081 votes.
The election was keenly contested, but Uzodimma emerged victorious in the end. This is his second term as Governor of Imo State.
In the previous election, Uzodimma was initially declared the loser, but the Supreme Court later overturned the result and declared him the winner.
About Hope Uzodinma
Hope Uzodinma was born on 12 December 1958 in Omuma; his father Chief Michael Uzodinma held the chieftaincy title of Igwe of Ozuh Omuma and his mother was Ezinne Rose Uzodinma (née Nneoha). He is a kinsman of the Okoro family of Etiti-Omuma.
Uzodinma is a devout Catholic and is married to Chioma Uzodinma with seven children.
Hope Uzodinma began his political career during the Second Nigerian Republic, joining the ruling National Party of Nigeria (NPN), where in 1983, he became the Imo State youth leader. In the 1990s, with the aborted transition to the Third Nigerian Republic, Uzodinma featured prominently as a member of the United Nigeria Congress Party.
