Indonesia To Deport Two Chinese Nationals Wanted In Murder Case

Indonesian authorities have taken two Chinese nationals into custody and are preparing to deport them in connection with a murder case, according to official statements made on Wednesday. The two individuals, identified only as W.J., 43, and W.C., 41, were apprehended by Indonesia's immigration authorities on Friday while dining at a restaurant in northern Jakarta. They are slated to be deported on Thursday, as confirmed by Silmy Karim, the immigration director general of the Law and Human Rights Ministry, during a press briefing. Karim emphasized the Indonesian government's commitment to preventing the country from becoming a sanctuary for criminals fleeing justice in other nations, stating, "We don't want Indonesia to be the destination of criminals escaping from abroad. We will continue to catch those on the wanted list in Indonesia." However, he did not provide specific details regarding the murder case for which the two suspects are being sought, noting that they had entered Indonesia using forged passports. The arrest of the Chinese nationals was initiated following information from the Chinese embassy in Indonesia, alerting Indonesian authorities to the presence of the individuals in the country. It was also noted that the suspects had been residing in Indonesia since 2004 and resisted arrest when confronted by law enforcement officers. This incident follows a recent collaboration between Indonesian and Chinese authorities in August, which led to the arrest of numerous Chinese nationals suspected of running an online love scam syndicate that victimized hundreds of individuals in China. Over 153 Chinese nationals were eventually deported in connection with that case, as reported by local media sources.
