LAGOS, Nigeria - The Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) council election primary was marked by intrigue, suspense, and confusion, as at least six incumbent council chairmen were unable to obtain their tickets for a second term during the event held across the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDA).
The four council chairmen were defeated by former lawmakers and younger party members who were running for the position for the first time.
Results counted at the party's Secretariat in ACME, Ikeja, Lagos State capital, indicated that these incumbents finished in second place and were significantly behind the leaders during the election.
The affected chairmen hailed from Coker Aguda, Agbado Oke-Odo, Onigbongbo, Ayobo Ipaja, Ojo, and Eti-Osa.
In Ojo local government, Muibat Rufai triumphed over the incumbent, Idowu Rasulu.
Rakiat Hassan of Onigbongbo LCDA was defeated by Moyo Adebanjo, while Ladi Oluwaloni, who had taken over leadership following the death of the previous Chairman, Bolanle Shobowale, could not retain his seat and lost to Agbaje Abiodun in Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA.
For the Agbado-Oke Odo LCDA, Jimoh Ishola secured the council ticket, displacing incumbent chairman Oladapo Famuyiwa, while Rasak Olamilekan of Coker Aguda lost to Azeez Ogidan.
In Eti-Osa East LCDA, John Ogundare was defeated by former Chairman Samson Agunbiade, who made a comeback after previously losing to Ogundare in the last election.
