In Anticipation Of His New Album, Davido Creates The "Timeless Afro Playlist"

POSTED ON March 22, 2023 •   Uncategorized      BY Akinbohun Samuel

The release date for Nigerian superstar Davido's upcoming album, Timeless, has been set for March 31, 2023. Also, Davido and Spotify are working together to create a unique playlist named "Timeless Afro Playlist" in advance of the album's release.

Davido has put together a playlist of classic Afrobeats songs for fans to listen to in order to get in the mood for the album's release. Some of the most iconic Afrobeats tracks can be found on the Timeless Afro playlist, which also includes hits by Wizkid, Tekno, and Mr. Eazi, three of his colleagues.

The playlist also includes some of the most well-known classics from the heyday of Afrobeats, including songs by Sunny Neji, 2baba, and Naeto C, as well as classics like Fela Kuti's "Zombie" that served as inspiration for many subsequent generations of Afrobeats artists.

Phiona Okumu, Spotify's Head of Music for Africa, said of the playlist: "Davido represents the audacity, consistency, and huge reach of Afrobeats, and we're glad to herald his new body of work by joining him in highlighting some of the most enduring contributions by Afrobeats acts to our musical canon over the years.

OBO, as Davido is affectionately referred to by fans, is one of the international faces of African music and is a member of a group of Nigerian musicians who has achieved enormous success in the digital era. The singer and label boss has changed over the course of almost ten years from the Afropop wunderkind who made his name with international hits.

The album announcement fulfills Davido's commitment to "meet his fans in March," and it seems like the wait will have been worthwhile. Timeless is "a collection of work that goes beyond fashion and trends," according to Davido's team. It's a sincere collection of work that stays faithful to Davido's artistic vision of using music to uplift his fans all over the world. It is timeless because the tunes you hear today will still be relevant tomorrow.
