South Korean President, Yoon Suk Yeol on Thursday vowed to fight until the very last minute amid looming impeachment.
President Yeol made this remark in a defiant address defending his shock decision to declare martial law and deploy troops to the country’s parliament on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
Recalled that the South Korean president is restricted from traveling abroad due to an investigation into his close associates regarding the significant occurrences.
Yoon will stare down an impeachment vote in parliament on Saturday, December 14, 2024, in a televised address vowed to fight with the people until the very last minute.
Yoon also doubled down on his justification of declaring martial law, which he had said was taken to safeguard South Korea from the threats posed by North Korea’s communist forces and eliminate anti-state elements.
He went on the attack against the opposition, accusing it of pushing the country into a national crisis.
"The National Assembly, which is largely controlled by the major opposition party, has turned into a force that undermines the constitutional framework of liberal democracy.
"I sincerely apologize once more to the citizens who may have felt shocked and worried because of the martial law.
"Please have faith in me," he said.
