A 200-level Mass Communication student from the University of Ilorin (name withheld) has been pronounced dead by medical professionals after reportedly taking his own life due to financial hardships in Kwara State.
Sources indicate that the deceased, who struggled to manage academic expenses, ended his life after all his roommates had left for other activities.
It is believed that he ingested toxic substances to ensure no one could stop him from carrying out the act in the Tanke area of the state.
Reports suggest that he left behind a suicide note outlining his reasons and asking for forgiveness from friends and family. Fellow students shared that prior to his death, he maintained an impressive Cumulative Grade Point Aggregate of 4.5.
They further mentioned that they had been supporting him with small amounts of money and food to help him continue his studies. A confidential source from the university disclosed that the deceased was financially supported by his mother's widow.
This individual stated that the young man took his own life “due to an alleged inability to fulfill his financial responsibilities amidst the current economic challenges in the country.”
The source also remarked that the young man lost his father a few years prior, leaving his retired teacher mother to shoulder the burden of his educational expenses.
