Ikorodu LG Empowerment programme

LAGOS, Nigeria - The Ikorodu Local Government in Lagos State reaffirmed its dedication to fostering youth development on Wednesday, aiming to boost their capabilities and productivity in the community.

The executive chairman,Wasiu Adesina, made this announcement while presenting sewing machines to 30 young individuals who successfully completed a nine-month skill acquisition course in fashion design.

He stated during the distribution at the council secretariat that this initiative is part of several efforts targeting human capital development in Ikorodu.

The participants were chosen from various council wards, with 120 youth initially enrolling in the program, and only 30 proceeding to completion as part of the first group.

"We firmly believe that investing in people’s potential is the most effective way to serve them. By offering initiatives like this, we are not merely providing resources; we are equipping our people with skills,” Adesina noted.

He emphasized that giving out the sewing machines was a step towards ensuring the skills learned could be utilized productively.

He encouraged the youth to gain skills that would lead to economic empowerment, innovation, and entrepreneurship, stating that fashion represents a significant global industry valued in billions. "By mastering the art of fashion design, you are now part of this vibrant sector,” he remarked, urging the beneficiaries to fully leverage this opportunity.

The council chairman assured that his administration would complete and inaugurate the legislative complex and all ongoing road projects by the end of his term.

Managing director and CEO of Celebrity Fashion Academy, Adetoun Awofeso, urged Nigerian fashion designers to adopt modern technology for higher-quality garment production, highlighting Nigeria's potential to become a hub for garment manufacturing to create jobs for the youth. Several beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to the council chairman, vowing to use the equipment to enhance their lives.
