IGP Usman Alkali Baba has directed CP Bartholomew N. Onyeka, the commissioner of police for the Plateau State, to secure all 17 of the state's local government secretariats.
According to a statement made by the state police command's spokesperson, DSP Alfred Alabo, this has become necessary due to tensions surrounding the Local Government Area leadership and the potential threat that supporters and Local Government Chairmen may pose to vital infrastructure, people, and property in the State. In order to fulfill our constitutional duty as the Nigeria Police Force to prevent the aforementioned from dominating on the Plateau, we have decided to take this action.
"Because of this, the Nigerian Police Force on the Plateau cannot stand by and let things go wrong while we are in charge. As a result, the Local Government Secretariats had to be sealed up. The command warns that anyone who attempts to sabotage this procedure or creates confusion around the Local Government Secretariats will not be treated lightly; instead, we will see to it that the law takes its full course against such persons,'' according to the statement.
