Ibom Air has recently acquired a brand new Airbus A220-300 for its operations and has incited plans to terminate its wet-leased operations.
The airline’s General Manager of Marketing and Communication, Aniekan Essienette made the announcement in a signed statement on Tuesday.
Essienette highlighted that with the impending introduction of the A220 into service, the operations involving their two wet-leased Airbus A320s would be concluded.
He further explained that the transition away from wet-leased aircraft would result in a temporary reduction in flight schedules for a few weeks. This adjustment is necessary as the first two recently acquired A220s are phased into service.
Expressing the airline's perspective on this strategic move, Ibom Air's Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Mr. George Uriesi, remarked, "We resorted to wet leasing aircraft to meet the growing demand for our product, while we worked on our fleet growth programme. Now with these aircraft being delivered, it is time for us to benefit from the significant operating efficiencies and enhanced service the A220-300 brings to the business."
Uriesi also extended apologies for any inconvenience caused by the reduced schedule during the transition period. However, he assured customers of a forthcoming period marked by improved and stable service with the introduction of these new aircraft.
This development underscores Ibom Air's commitment to enhancing its fleet capabilities and providing a superior travel experience for its passengers.
Recall that Ibom Air started operations on June 7, 2019 with the Bombardier CRJ900 as the first aircraft to fly in the state's airport in Akwa-Ibom. The aircraft took off from the Uyo's Victor Attah airport to the Muritala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.
