Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin expressed his backing on Saturday for establishing Karaduwa State, which would be carved out of the current Katsina State.
Barau, who leads the Senate Committee on Constitutional Review, emphasized the agricultural potential of the region and stressed that it warranted its own state.
He made this statement in Funtua, Katsina State, during the distribution of Ramadan food supplies and empowerment initiatives organized by Senator Muntari Dandutse, representing the Katsina South Senatorial District.
“The demand for Karaduwa State is a commendable initiative; it’s a worthy ambition from the people of Karaduwa. This is an agricultural region. They possess the necessary attributes to establish a state. However, there are constitutional stipulations for state creation. I concur with their sentiments and support them,” remarked the deputy Senate president.
Jibrin promised to do everything within his power to assist the community in achieving their goal of forming Karaduwa State.
“I will exert every effort possible. It’s important to note that they are my neighbors. My senatorial district shares a border with this region, so I am well aware of their needs,” Jibrin stated.
During the event, Dandutse enumerated the items provided for empowerment, which included not less than eight truckloads of rice.
He also distributed 5,439 bags of fertilizer, 3,795 bags of maize, 384 sewing machines, and 110 grinding machines to aid constituents during Ramadan.
Additionally, Bala Abu-Musawa, the deputy chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, also called on the National Assembly to facilitate the creation of Karaduwa State.
He praised Dandutse for his efforts in advocating for the establishment of a Federal University of Medical Sciences in the Funtua Local Government Area.
