Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna state, has asserted that he did not embezzle public funds while serving two terms in government.
According to DailyTrust, the governor made this statement at his final media appearance as governor, which took place over the weekend.
"I'm willing to swear that I never stole a kobo from the government. If someone claims that we took out loans, they could check their cash on the ground. We didn't take out this loan to buy mansions in Dubai or to build a palace on Jabi Road so that we might have a comfortable place to sleep; that is not how we operate.
"I had just one residence when I was elected governor of Kaduna, at Ungwan Sarki, on Danja Road. I'm now completing that house to the glory of God; it's the only one I have. I didn't construct a mansion since I don't need one.
"I did not take anyone's money, and I am urging all former state officials to get forward and make a Qur'anic declaration affirming that they did not steal any Kaduna resources during their time in office."
