Former President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, on Wednesday, stated he would stop the Russia/Ukraine war in 24 hours if he was the US President.
Trump said this on Wednesday during a CNN town hall in New Hampshire that was aired live to the audience. He said that in order to accomplish this, he would negotiate with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, Vladimirovich Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, respectively.
“I’ll meet with Putin. I’ll meet with Zelensky. Both of them have advantages and disadvantages. And within 24 hours, that war will be settled. It’ll be over,” Trump said.
On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded and occupied parts of Ukraine, leading to a significant escalation in the Russo-Ukrainian War that began in 2014, making it Europe's largest refugee crisis since World War II.
At another moment, Trump refused to say whether he thinks Putin is a war criminal for the alleged atrocities he committed in Ukraine.
He stated, "If you say he is a war criminal, it will be much harder to make a deal to stop this thing."
“He will fight a lot harder than he would under any other circumstance if he were a war criminal; people will grab him and execute him. That is something that will be discussed in the future.
Additionally, the former president stated that he believes that "Putin made a mistake" when he invaded Ukraine.
Trump responded, "His mistake was going in," when asked for more information. If I were president, he never would have gone in."
Despite having been criminally indicted and remaining under multiple other investigations on serious allegations, Trump, 76, is a frontrunner to be the Republican Party's nominee and has already announced his bid for a comeback in 2024.
