Edo State's Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has unreservedly voiced his confidence in securing victory in the upcoming gubernatorial election, asserting that he will triumph over the preferred candidate of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Shaibu articulated his conviction during a Monday evening appearance on a TVC program, underscoring his determination to secure the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket.
“Definitely, I’ll defeat the so-called candidate of the governor, not because I have the power, but because Edo people want their own and I am their own. Edo people do not want importation; they want their own.
“The problem I have with the governor is that he has allowed certain individuals that have interest in governance to come between us.
“He is managing in his own style and the way he feels he can manage it. I am also managing it the way I feel I can manage it.
“When I said I was pressed, but not distressed, I understand the kind of intimidation and oppression I have gone through,” the governorship hopeful said.
This resolute stance follows Shaibu's recent formal announcement of his candidacy for the PDP ticket, signaling a decisive move in the political landscape. The Deputy Governor's decision has set the stage for a compelling contest within the party as he positions himself against the backdrop of Obaseki's preferred candidate.
In a strategic move reflecting his commitment to the electoral journey, Shaibu inaugurated his campaign office in Benin City, the state capital. The event drew a significant turnout of party supporters, emphasizing the resonance of his candidacy within the party ranks.
