Police in Ogun State arrested four armed men over an alleged plot to obstruct Governor Dapo Abiodun's second term inauguration ceremony.
For his second term, Abiodun was sworn in on May 29 at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Kuto, Abeokuta.
The suspects who intended to disrupt the ceremony identified themselves as Adedapo Taiwo, Arogundade Idowu, Noah Jogunomi, and James Abiodun, according to Ogun State Commissioner of Police Olanrewaju Oladimeji.
The four suspects were detained at Kobape, Abeokuta, the Police Commissioner revealed, "for planning to disrupt the inauguration ceremony of Governor Dapo Abiodun's second term."
In his words, "the suspects were in possession of a Beretta pistol, live ammunition and assorted criminal charms" when they were apprehended.
Along with 36 other people, the suspects were paraded on Thursday at the police headquarters in Eleweran.
Other individuals for their claimed involvement in cultism, murder, and armed robbery were paraded by the Ogun police.
The suspects, according to Oladimeji, were captured both inside and outside of Ogun State.
He said that in Mushin, Lagos State, Michael Bob, Abdul Omotoyosi, and Madeshina Idris were arrested for conspiring, carrying out an armed robbery, and stealing. He also alleged that a stolen Toyota automobile was found during the operation.
Additionally, Austin Omoh, who is suspected of taking part in an armed robbery in Ogun, was apprehended in Maroko, Lagos, and a stolen Toyota Sequoia SUV with the license plate AAA 631 HX was found.
The police chief continued by saying that one Wasiu Odubote was arrested for shoplifting and theft in Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode after he and other members of his gang, who are still at large, broke into a spare parts store on Old Ondo Road.
Others who were paraded were charged with cult membership and found in possession of firearms and other illegal weapons.
The police chief emphasized that until the state was free of cultism and other criminal activity, the command would not budge.
