Orba and Eha-Alumona communities in Enugu State were gripped by terror on Saturday as gunmen attacked and killed two operatives each from the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
This recent attack occurred less than 24 hours after two policemen on stop-and-search duty were killed by gunmen in the state metropolis, close to the Government House.
According to The Punch report, reliable sources said the latest attack began at the Premier Junction in Eha-Alumona, Nsukka Local Government Area, and proceeded to the Army checkpoint at Orba in Udenu Local Government Area around 4 pm.
The four personnel were killed in the onslaught, while others sustained injuries. The hoodlums also attacked and set ablaze a Hilux van belonging to Patrick Eze, the traditional ruler of Egali Amalla Community in Udenu LG, popularly known as Igwe Waziri. An FRSC van was also burnt during the carnage.
When contacted for comment, the state Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, said, "I am not aware of the incident. Please contact the Police Public Relations Officer on that." However, the command's spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.
Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah had previously vowed to apprehend the assailants responsible for the killing of two policemen on Friday, utilizing all available resources of the state government.
