A tragic incident occurred in Enugu State, as Nelson Sylvester, A.K.A Ofunwa, a councillor representing the Eha-Ulo ward in the Nsukka Local Government Area Legislative Council, was shot.
Reliable sources confirmed that the lawmaker was attacked by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Eha-Alumonah on Sunday night.
While the details surrounding the incident remain unclear, the assailants reportedly forced themselves into the councillor's home and unleashed a hail of bullets on him.
In an attempt to escape, the councillor sought refuge in a nearby compound, but unfortunately, his lifeless body was discovered there later.
This tragic event has created a state of tension not only in the town but also in neighbouring communities.
The source expressed deep sorrow and anguish over what they described as a senseless act of assassination, stating, "It is heartbreaking; it is too hard for us to swallow. We are in deep agony."
Efforts were made to reach out to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Enugu, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, for official confirmation and further details.
However, due to his unavailability, a text message was sent, to which he responded, "I have not been briefed on such an incident. However, I'll verify and revert back ASAP, please."
