According to the police, gunmen have kidnapped seven University of Jos students.
On Wednesday in Jos, DSP Alfred Alabo, Public Relations Officer for the Plateau State Police Command, confirmed the incident to NAN.
Alabo claims that the students were kidnapped on Monday night from their accommodation off-campus.
He added that when their kidnappers took them away, they were studying for their second-semester exams, which started on Tuesday.
"It is true that seven University of Jos students were kidnapped by some criminals. On Monday at around 8:30 p.m., they were picked up from their hostel on the Bauchi Ring Road in the Jos North Local Government Area.
"Bartholomew Onyeka, the state's police commissioner, has sent out armed police officers to apprehend the kidnappers and assure the safe return of the pupils.
"Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) and [other] security agencies have also deployed their personnel for search-and-rescue operations," he claimed.
Alabo urged local residents and students to maintain their composure, reassuring them that security organizations are making every effort to ensure the captives' safe release.
