In a recent announcement, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is set to commence a medical leave on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, to facilitate further medical treatment. This disclosure came through an official statement issued and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, based in Akure.
During this medical leave, Governor Akeredolu will prioritize his health and focus on achieving a complete recovery before returning to his official duties, as conveyed by Olatunde. In adherence to constitutional protocols, a formal letter outlining the medical leave and a notice officially transferring executive authority will be transmitted to the House of Assembly.
In the absence of Governor Akeredolu, the Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, will temporarily assume the responsibilities of the Governor in an acting capacity. This measure aims to ensure the seamless continuation of governance during the Governor's medical absence.
Expressing gratitude for the unwavering support from the people of Ondo State, Governor Akeredolu reassures them of his administration's unwavering commitment to the path of progress and prosperity for the state. Notably, this isn't the first time Governor Akeredolu has delegated power to his deputy during periods of absence, as evidenced by similar practices during previous vacations on April 1, 2021, April 1, 2022, April 3, 2023, and July 10, 2023.
As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a highly respected figure in the country, Governor Akeredolu's proactive delegation of responsibilities underscores his commitment to ensuring effective governance even in his temporary absence. The people of Ondo State can be rest assured that the administration remains steadfast in its dedication to the welfare and progress of the state.
