The 17 local government transition committees have been disbanded by Abia State Governor Alex Otti.
Ferdinand Ekeoma, the governor's special adviser on media and publicity, made this announcement in a statement on Thursday.
The ousted chairmen and their assistants are required to turn over control to the head of personnel management in their respective local governments.
The education secretaries of the seventeen local governments were also fired by Governor Otti in a similar move.
"Each affected education Secretary is to hand over to the most senior director," the announcement said.
The impacted parties should comply with the orders immediately in order to guarantee a smooth transition of power in the local government regions.
