The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has urged the people of the state to maintain peace and avoid any form of political violence as the state prepares for its upcoming election on March 11th.
Addressing stakeholders and leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at his residence, Governor Adeleke praised the massive support the PDP received in last Saturday's election and urged all political parties to maintain peace, emphasizing that democracy is about making choices at the polling stations.
The governor also cautioned against incitement, political violence, or any other behaviour that could disrupt the peace currently being experienced in the state, stressing the importance of peace in every situation.
Regarding the outcome of the previous election, Governor Adeleke declared that there was no winner or vanquished and urged voters to prepare for the exercise of their fundamental human right in the upcoming election.
He also stated that democracy is like a sporting game, and there are times when you win and times when you lose, but the spirit of sportsmanship should always be kept alive.
Governor Adeleke called on the people of Osun to get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ready, mobilize, and exercise their civic responsibility peacefully in the countdown to March 11th.
He emphasized the need for all elected representatives to work together in the best interest of the voting public and the state, regardless of whether they won or lost the previous election.
The meeting was attended by top leaders of the PDP in Osun State, including elected Senators and House of Representatives members, as well as State Assembly candidates from the 26 state constituencies.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon Kazeem Akinleye, the Secretary to the State Government, Hon Teslim Igbalaye, the State Caretaker Chairman of the Party, Dr Akindele Adekunle, Yeye Modupe Adeleke-Sani, Hon Sunday Bisi, Dr B.T Salami, and other top leaders of the party in the state were also present.
